I graduated from UT in 2007 and am honored to be a Longhorn.  My connection to Coach Royal is unfortunately through Alzheimer's Disease.  My Grandfather, Raymond Knoblauch, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1998, succumbed to the disease in 2002.

He graduated from the University of Houston in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and received his Master’s Degree in Administration. He coached at Hartman Junior High from 1959 to 1960 and was head baseball coach at Bellaire High School from 1961 to 1986 where he compiled a 598-225 record as head coach during a 25-year career that included four state championships and three runner-up finishes.

In 1978, he was named National High School coach of the year.

"Papa" retired from the Houston Independent School District in 1993 as an Athletic Administrator. He was a member of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association which he co-founded, American Association of Baseball Coaches and the Houston Professional Baseball Players Association.

The field where he coached and made a lasting impression on so many young men was renamed "Ray Knoblauch Field" in his honor.  His devotion to the game is something his players, their parents and the Bellaire community will never forget.

He left a remarkable legacy and was thought of as a competitor.  More than anything, he was a wonderful Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Friend, and Teacher.
