Kelsey Hughes's Fundraising Page
It is truly an honor to be a member of an organization dedicated to making Texas a leader in innovative Alzheimer's research. There are 340,000 Texans living with Alzheimer's and in 2009 my grandfather became one of them. The impact of Alzheimer's is devastating. I have seen firsthand how the disease can affect a family and am committing myself to assist in curing the disease. Please join me and my fellow Legacy Council members as we fight to raise awareness, support those affected, and, most importantly, put an end to Alzheimer's Disease.
My grandfather, Robert (Bob) W. Hughes, is a well respected and successful businessman living in Austin, Texas. He is a philanthropist, a wonderful husband, and an amazing father and grandfather.
My grandfather grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma and attended The University of Oklahoma where he played baseball for the Sooners. He loved coming down to Texas to play The University of Texas Longhorns. It was no surprise that years later, after earning his MBA at Harvard, he found his way back to Austin and planted his roots.
My grandparents enjoyed a wonderful friendship with Coach and Edith Royal. Some of my earliest memories take place in the Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, standing alongside my grandfather and waving my burnt orange pom pom's around. Although I followed in my grandfather's footsteps and became a Sooner, we still have a love for our home team that Coach Royal made legendary.
My family and I are cherishing every moment we have with my grandfather. I am passionate about the work that the Darrell K Royal Fund is doing to honor Coach Royal and be a game changer in the cure for Alzheimer's. I am proud to be a part of that work and I know my grandfather is proud of me too.
We will see you in the stands this season, HOOK 'EM.
