The Board of Advisors for the Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer's Disease consists of leaders in business, entertainment, sports and government, all of whom have affection for Darrell Royal and a desire to make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. We are honored to have them on our team. It is with their support that we will win this fight.
GREG ABBOTT was reelected as the 50th Attorney General of Texas on November 2, 2010. Prior to his election as attorney general, Greg Abbott served as a Justice on the Texas Supreme Court and as a State District Judge in Harris County. In his capacity as the state's lawyer, Attorney General Abbott oversees more than 700 attorneys who represent the State of Texas. Greg Abbott's career in public service began in Houston, where he served as a highly rated state trial judge in the 129th District Court for three years and was named "Trial Judge of the Year" by the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists. In 1995, then-Governor George W. Bush appointed Abbott to the Texas Supreme Court, where he served with distinction. Twice elected to the Texas Supreme Court, Abbott earned numerous awards, including "Jurist of the Year" from the Texas Review of Law & Politics and Appellate Specialists; and "Appellate Judge of the Year" from the Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
A native Texan, Attorney General Abbott was born in Wichita Falls and raised in Duncanville. After graduating from the University of Texas with a B.B.A. in Finance, he received his law degree from Vanderbilt University. Shortly after graduating from law school, he was partially paralyzed by a falling tree while jogging. He and his wife, Cecilia, reside in Austin with their daughter Audrey.
BEAU ARMSTRONG is the CEO of Stratus Properties Inc. (NASDAQ:STRS) Stratus is an Austin, Texas based real estate development company. Employed by Stratus since its spin-off from Freeport-McMoran Inc. in 1992, he has served as CEO since 1998. Recent projects include the W Austin Hotel & Residences and adjacent Austin City Limits Live music venue in downtown Austin.
Mr. Armstrong has been active in NAREIT, the U.S. Green Building Council, the Urban Land Institute and the Real Estate Council of Austin. He currently serves as a member of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Finance Committee and previously served on the boards of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (Advance Team) and Caritas of Austin.
MACK BROWN is in his 15th season as head football coach of the Texas Longhorns. With a mark at Texas of 141-39 (.783), the 2008 Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Year and 2009 Big 12 Coach of the Year is among the most respected and successful men in his profession. He was the 2005 Paul W. "Bear" Bryant National Coach of the Year award winner when Texas won the BCS National Championship. He is one of a handful of coaches in the history of college football to lead two separate programs to a top five national finish (UT and North Carolina).One of the most respected coaches in the college game, Brown has served on numerous national committees. He has been a member of the NCAA Football Rules Committee and the NCAA Football Issues Committee. He has been chairman of the Football Coaches' Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the College Football Association. A past member of the American Football Coaches Association's (AFCA) Ethics Committee, Brown also has served on the AFCA Public Relations Committee. He has been invited to coach in five postseason all-star games, including the Japan Bowl, Hula Bowl (twice) and East-West Shrine Game (twice).
Mack and Sally Brown serve as honorary co-chairpersons of the Capital Campaign for the Helping Hands of Austin. They have been instrumental in the opening of The Rise School of Austin (an early childhood education program that integrates children who have disabilities with their typically developing peers) and serve on the school's Board of Directors. The Browns also contribute privately to numerous other causes in Austin and have been awarded for their generous helping hands.
BEN CRENSHAW Although some professional golfers have won more major tournaments and others have collected more in winnings, Ben Crenshaw remains after thirty-five years on tour one of the most popular and talented players on the grueling PGA circuit. His all-American looks, charisma, and grace under pressure have made him a gallery favorite from his days at the University of Texas, where he was heralded as the next Jack Nicklaus, to the 1984 Masters Tournament, where he ended a decade of frustration to capture his first major championship title. His place in golf history was secured with a second victory at Augusta in 1995, along with being named Captain of the 1999 U.S. Ryder Cup team.
In recent years, Crenshaw has spent considerable time away from the PGA Tour developing his golf course architecture business. With partner, Bill Coore, the firm of Coore & Crenshaw has done restoration work on some of the finest courses in the country including Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, Houston Country Club in Houston, and Brook Hollow Country Club in Dallas. Coore & Crenshaw have also built championship courses throughout the United States including The Plantation Club at the Kapalua Bay Resort on Maui, Hawaii, the Crenshaw/Coore course at the Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas and The Sand Hills Golf Club near Mullen, Nebraska. Ben and his wife, Julie, reside in Austin, Texas and have three daughters, Katherine Vail, Claire Susan, and Anna Riley.
LISA DAWSON The Kim Dawson Agency CEO, Lisa, a Dallas businesswoman, wife and mother, assumed the agency reins when her mother, the late Kim Dawson stepped down due to the advancement of Alzheimer's disease. For over forty years, the Kim Dawson Agency has been the premiere agency in the Southwest. It is a full service agency representing women, men and children for print, fashion shows, feature films and television.
Today the agency is still fully owned by the Dawson family. Having begun as an agency that represented women primarily for "tea room" modeling, the Kim Dawson Agency now has a reputation worldwide for finding and developing top models and talent. International modeling stars such as Bridget Hall, Erin Wasson, Chandra North and Ali Michael all got their starts with the Kim Dawson Agency. Actors Angie Harmon (Law and Order), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), began their careers here as well. And many of today's most recognizable teen stars -- Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place), Demi Lovato (Sonny With a Chance), Debby Ryan (The Suite Life on Deck) and Thomas Mann (It's Kind Of a Funny Story) -- were discovered while working with the Kim Dawson Agency.
ELOISE DEJORIA is an actress, mother, wife, and spokesmodel for John Paul Mitchell Systems - has relied on hard work and perseverance to achieve her dreams. A native of Texas, Eloise jumpstarted her acting and modeling career while raising her first two children, Michael Harvey and Justin Harvey, as a single mom. After moving from Texas to Los Angeles and marrying John Paul DeJoria, Eloise began her tenure as spokesmodel for Paul Mitchell while continuing her other entertainment industry endeavors.
Eloise's successful and long-standing acting career includes roles in such films as Songwriter, Weekend at Bernie's, The Big Tease, April Shower, Grand Champion, and the recent You Don't Mess With the Zohan. In her role as spokesmodel for John Paul Mitchell Systems, Eloise loves helping hairdressers find ways to combine their artistry with business savvy to reach their goals. In addition, Eloise appreciates the opportunity to inspire women of all ethnic groups and ages to look and feel their best with her all-American, 'everywoman' image. She also greatly values the opportunity to participate with her husband in the extensive philanthropic activities carried out by the company, and firmly shares his motto - 'Success unshared is failure.' Eloise lives her life according to her ideals- which include balance, family values, a healthy lifestyle, and in general a happy and spiritual outlook on life.
FRANK DENIUS has been a passionate and effective champion of The University of Texas at Austin for more than 50 years. After distinguishing himself as one of the most highly decorated veterans of World War II, he entered UT and graduated in business and law in 1949. He is an attorney and director of the Southern Union Company and Chase Bank-Austin. He served as president of the Texas Exes from 1964-66, during the construction of the Alumni Center on campus, and contributed substantially to the expansion of the Center in the 1980s. His commitment to developing future leadership in Texas led him to endow the President's Leadership Awards.
He has served on the UT Development Board, the Centennial Commission, the Campaign Executive Council of the We're Texas Campaign, the Commission of 125, and as chairman of the Leadership Austin Council. He is president of the Cain Foundation, which has generously funded the fine arts, athletics, and such areas as photojournalism and the Normandy Scholars Program. In 1991, Frank Denius received the University's Distinguished Alumnus Award. Because of his outstanding support of Longhorn athletics, the Frank Denius Fields are named in his honor, including the indoor football practice facility.
MELISSA EDWARDS is a third generation Texan and a proud graduate of the University of Houston where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA degree in Art History. Melissa's greatest passion is her work with Alzheimer'. Her father, Gordon, was diagnosed with the disease when he was at the young age of 48 and passed away in 2003 at 56 years of age. Melissa served on the board of directors for the Alzheimer's Association Houston and Southeast Chapter and in 2009, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst appointed Melissa to a six-year term on the Texas Council on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders. She is also a member of the Steering Committee for the Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorder Center at Baylor College of Medicine. She is active in a leadership role in many prominent civic charitable endeavors in her community. Over the past eight years she has been an integral part of raising over 2 million dollars for various non-profits.
And because of her outstanding efforts she was named by the Houston Jaycees as one of Five Outstanding Young Houstonians and the Texas Jaycees as one of Five Outstanding Young Texans. She was honored as an ABC/Channel 13 Crohn's and Colitis Foundation Woman of Distinction in 2010 and in 2011 received the Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor College of Medicine "Excellence in Bloom" award.
LARRY GATLIN was born in 1948 in Seminole, Texas, the son of an oil driller. The oldest of the three Gatlin brothers, he was by age seven, already accompanying younger brothers, Steve and Rudy in singing at family and church events. After high school, Larry went to the University of Houston on a football scholarship. Larry majored in English and developed "a love affair with the English Language" that later served him in his songwriting. On the strength of his songwriting talents, Larry Gatlin became known throughout Nashville music Industry. While Steve and Rudy were finishing college, Larry was already touring the small club and listening room circuit as a solo act, looking forward to the time when he could afford to expand his live show to include his brothers. December 1992 marked a farewell to concert touring for the Gatlin brothers. Then came a major turning point in his career. Larry took the lead role in the Tony award winning best musical "The Will Rogers Follies."
Larry is a family man, who shares with his wife Janis, a home in Austin, Texas. They are the proud parents of two children, Josh and Kristin. Josh lives in Washington DC and Kristin lives in Syracuse, New York with her husband Scott. Larry is also a "Papa" to Kristin's daughters, Parker and Campbell.
ANGIE HARMON, native Texan, is best known for her starring role as Assistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael on NBC's Emmy-winning drama Law & Order. Going on its third season, Angie Harmon currently stars in the television series Rizzoli & Isles. Her recent credits include the series Women's Murder Club and the original Lifetime Television Movie Living Proof, in which she played the role of real-life breast cancer activist and philanthropist Lilly Tartikoff. Harmon has spent most of her life in front of the camera. Both of her parents were models, and she began modeling when she was a baby. At the age of 15, she beat out 63,000 entrants to win Seventeen Magazine's cover model contest. She then returned to Texas to graduate from Highland Park High School.
Upon graduation, Angie traveled between New York and Los Angeles, where she began to study acting. She made her feature film debut in the independent film Lawn Dogs, opposite Sam Rockwell. The film screened at both the Toronto Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival. Harmon's many movie credits include The Good Mother, Fun with Dick and Jane, Agent Cody Banks and the independent film Seraphim Falls. She made her network television series debut starring opposite Eric Roberts as the rookie member of the FBI's elite crime unit on the series C-16: FBI. Harmon currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband and three daughters.
RITA HORTENSTINE is Governor Rick Perry's appointee to the Texas Council on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders and a national voice for Alzheimer's research and care giving. She serves on the steering committee of the Friends of ALzheimer's Disease at UTSouthwestern Medical Center and is on the advisory board for the Center for Brain Health. Additionally, she served on the National Alzheimer's Association Board of Directors and on the Greater Dallas Chapter of the ALzheimer's Association Board of Directors. After a successful professional career as a Chanel executive and spokesperson, Rita now lives an active life as a Dallas community leader and philanthropist. However, her experience with her father's eighteen-year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease defined Alzheimer's as her primary cause.
She is a key leader in the initiation of many programs for persons living with Alzheimer's and their caregivers, most notably the R.J. Roper Caregivers and Respite Program, which she founded in honor of her father. Unique to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Dallas Chapter, this program has recognized over fifty caregivers with a monetary award for excellence in caregiving from their sponsors, and provides respite for those in need in 34 Texas counties. Rita is a member of Charter 100, a founding board member of the Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation, and an advisory board member of Chiapas International. Rita and her husband Henry reside in Dallas and have four daughters and five grandchildren.
ALFRED JACKSON is President and Managing Partner of Capital Point Partners, responsible for deal flow generation, investor relations, capital raising and overall Firm strategy. Capital Point Partners ("Capital Point"), headquartered in Houston, Texas, is an investment management firm providing mezzanine securities to middle market companies throughout the United States. Capital Point invests in a wide variety of transaction types, including buyouts, recapitalizations and refinancing's, mergers and acquisitions and growth/expansion situations. He is also the founding partner of The Inroads Group, Ltd., serving as President and also a member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Jackson has more than 25 years investment experience with money management firms serving Public Funds, Endowments, Foundations, and Taft-Hartley Plans in the institutional marketplace. He spent 18 years as principal with Davis Hamilton Jackson and Associates (DHJA), an institutional investment firm with more than $4 billion in assets under management, investing in equity securities. Prior to joining DHJA, He was Vice President of the Institutional Fixed-Income Division at Capital Municipal Securities in Austin, Texas.
He played professional football for seven years with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. Mr. Jackson is a current Board Member of the University of Texas Advisory Board for the McCombs School of Business, the University of Texas Chancellor's Council, The Children's Museum of Houston, SEARCH, and a Trustee of the Houston Municipal Employees Pension System. Mr. Jackson received his B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
JOE JAMAIL, a University of Texas alumnus, called "the King of Torts" by Time and Newsweek, is one of the most influential lawyers in the United States. Throughout his legal career, Mr. Jamail has taken on some of the nation's biggest corporations. His $11.12 billion verdict against Texaco in 1985 is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest civil damages award in history. His legal efforts have also caused the recall of three products -- the Remington 600, the Honda All-Terrain Three Wheeler and the prescription drug Parlodel.
Mr. Jamail is considered the greatest supporter of the University of Texas law school, to which he has contributed a significant amount of time and money. Along with his wife Lee, he is also one of the top donors to the University in general. Most recently, the Jamails donated funds to help establish 33 scholarships for minority students through the Texas Exes. Accolades include The University of Texas School of Law creating The Joseph D. Jamail Centennial Chair in Law and Advocacy, The University of Texas designating the Jessie Jones Hall at the Law School as "The Joseph D. Jamail Center for Legal Research" and The Jurisprudence Award by the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith just to name a few.
DAVID KAZEN is a Family Law attorney in Austin, Texas who is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Kazen has been representing clients in divorce, child custody, child support and marital property cases for greater than sixteen years. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, the State Bar of Texas, the Austin Bar Association, Collaborative Law Institute of Texas, and the College of the State Bar of Texas.
Mr. Kazen is also the past president of the Collaborative Law Group of Austin, a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and is active with the Travis County Family Law Advocates. He is a frequent lecturer to the State Bar of Texas local chapters on the subject of Family Law. David Kazen has a unique connection to the Darrel K Royal Research Fund, one that makes his passion truly personal. He is proud to be the grandson of Darrell and Edith Royal.
MARGARET MORTON KRASOVEC Her diverse career spans from founding and operating a women's sportswear manufacturing business, serving on product development teams for The Gap clothing manufacturer to professional services marketing for a Fortune 500 Health Care Provider and interior design project management. With more than twenty years experience providing market analysis, marketing plan development and implementation, sales program audits and redesign for the healthcare, apparel and promotional products industries Margaret has participated in large-scale systems development efforts in the needs assessment, strategic planning, requirements definition and implementation phases. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, she holds a Master of Business Administration from St. Edward's University.
She has been active in a variety of community leadership roles, including the Ronald McDonald House, The People's Community Clinic, Alzheimer's Association – Capital of Texas Chapter, Austin Lyric Opera, Old West Austin Neighborhood Association, Austin Film Society, Junior League of Austin, Young Presidents Organization, World Presidents Organization and St. Edward's University Board of Trustees and Ohio University School of Business Advisory Board. Margaret and her husband Frank reside in Austin, Texas.
AVA LATE has been a media spokesperson for twenty years in the Southwest United States and owner of a Music Publishing Company for fifteen years. Presently, she is the Director of Marketing and Public Relations and Community Affairs for BMW and MINI of Austin.
She has volunteered and served in various capacities with the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Hospice Association, Alzheimer's Association, AWARE, Women's Symphony League, Ballet Guild, Bridge Point Booster Club, Good Shepherd Episcopal School, Hill Country Middle School Booster Club, The Sam Houston Society of Friends of the Governor's Mansion, The Littlefield Society, The Chancellor's Council of UT, Austin Country Club Women's Association. Board Member of Summit Homeowner's Association, Ballet Austin, Capital of Texas Alzheimer's Association, Helping Hand Advisory Board, and the Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer's Disease Advisory Board.
BILLY JOE "Red" MCCOMBS is the founder of the Red McCombs Automotive Group, a co-founder of Clear Channel Communications, a former owner of the San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, and the Minnesota Vikings, and the namesake of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. He is married to wife Charline and has three daughters, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Giving to others is a way of life for Red McCombs. He is quick to offer help to those in need, and his generous concern for others is evident in all that he does. McCombs has worked in various leadership positions in his community. His family foundation gives over 300 monetary gifts each year to community, education, and health-oriented charities. In May 2000, McCombs gave a $50 million cash gift to The University of Texas at Austin College of Business Administration and Graduate School of Business.
To honor McCombs for his extraordinary gift, the UT System Board of Regents authorized the school to rename itself the Red McCombs School of Business. McCombs believes that his investment in the business school, which he attended in the 1940s, will have a far reaching effect because of the students. In July 2005, Red and Charline McCombs donated $30 million to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to create The Red and Charline McCombs Institute for the Early Detection and Treatment of Cancer. Since 1980, they have supported M.D. Anderson through contributions to the George and Cynthia Mitchell Basic Sciences Research Building, the George and Barbara Bush Endowment for Innovative Cancer Research and M.D. Anderson's "Fulfill the Promise" capital campaign.
MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY is one of Hollywood's most sought after leading men whose films have grossed over a billion dollars at the box office. He is a Texas native who, while attending the University of Texas in Austin, planned to be a lawyer. When he discovered an inspirational Og Mandino book The Greatest Salesman in the World before one of his final exams, he suddenly knew that he had to change his major from law to film. He began his acting career in 1991. It was a chance meeting in Austin with casting director and producer, Don Phillips, who introduced him to director, Richard Linklater where he got cast as Wooderson in the cult classic "Dazed and Confused." Since then he has appeared in over 40 feature films, and has become a producer, director, and philanthropist all the while sticking to his Texas roots and 'jk livin' philosophy. Over the years, he has portrayed an athlete, police officer, football coach and a lawyer, and has worked with Hollywood's finest.
In addition to his film career, Matthew also takes the time to give back. In 2008, he started The just keep livin Foundation which is dedicated to helping boys and girls transform into men and women through programs that teach the importance of decision making, health, education, and active living. The just keep livin Foundation has partnered with Communities in Schools in West Los Angeles to implement fitness and wellness programs in two large, urban high schools. CIS is the nation's largest, non-profit, dropout prevention organization. Through the j.k. livin afterschool program, they are able to give kids a healthy start in life and the promise of a healthy future.
JAMES "Jim Bob" MOFFETT is Co-Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of McMoRan Exploration Co. (NYSE: MMR). MMR is engaged in the exploration, development and production of oil and natural gas reserves offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and onshore in the Gulf Coast area. In August 2007 MMR completed an acquisition of the Gulf of Mexico Shelf oil and gas properties of Newfield Exploration Company (NYSE: NFX) and certain exploration rights for approximately $1.08 billion in cash. McMoRan's Davy Jones discovery in early 2010, an ultra-deep well in 20 feet of water on the shelf of the Gulf of Mexico, was named Discovery of the Year by Oil and Gas Investor Magazine.
He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (NYSE: FCX). FCX is one of the world's leading international mining companies. FCX is engaged in minerals exploration, mining, smelting, refining and related operations around the globe. Under Mr. Moffett's leadership in 1988, FCX discovered the Grasberg ore complex in Papua, Indonesia, which contains the world's largest reserves of copper and gold. In 2007, FCX acquired the Phelps Dodge Corporation in a $26 billion transaction that created the world's largest publicly traded copper company. With 25,000 employees, FCX operates large, long-lived, geographically diverse assets with significant proven and probable reserves of copper, gold and molybdenum and has a dynamic portfolio of expansion and growth projects. Mr. Moffett and his wife, Laurée, reside in Austin with their two children Jordan and Corinne and are very active in their community.
LAURÉE MOFFETT was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she attended Louisiana State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree and continued her post-graduate education focusing on interior design. She is married to James "Jim Bob" Moffett and together they have two children; a son, Jordan Moffett who attends St. Andrews Episcopal High School and a daughter, Corinne Moffett who attends St. Gabriel's Catholic Middle School.
Along with dedicating herself to the schools her children attend; Laurée is very passionate when it comes to supporting important causes in the Austin community. She is strongly focused on the Neurosciences Research Initiative and Program for Dell Children's Hospital, and is also a founding member of the Women's Trust for the Children's Medical Center Foundation. Additionally, she has a strong commitment to the Alzheimer's Association Capital of Texas Chapter where she helps raise funds and serves on the board. Laurée is a firm believer that the gift of giving back to the community is the best gift of all.
KIT TENNISON MONCRIEF is a philanthropist whose leadership roles in Fort Worth reflect her many and varied interests, which include ranching, art, wildlife conservation, and travel. She is president of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, president, board of trustees, of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation, co-chair of the Fort Worth Zoological Association, Director, T.J. Brown and C.A. Lupton Foundation and board member of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Association. She also serves as a board member of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and an executive committee and national advisory board member of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. She serves on the executive committee and board of trustees of Texas Christian University and is an executive committee and board member of the Van Cliburn Foundation. Outside of Fort Worth, she is a board of visitors member, University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She is a member of the board of development, University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston. She was past chair, Museum council of the Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin, as well as co-chair of the museum's $75 million capital campaign). She studied art history at Southern Methodist University and participated in Texas Christian University's Ranch Management program.
As a native of Fort Worth, she is passionate about organizations and causes that are making a difference in her home town and her home state. Mrs. Moncrief and her husband Charles B. Moncrief, an independent oil and gas producer and rancher, reside in Fort Worth and have three daughters.
MIKE MYERS serves as Chief Executive Officer of Myers Bancshares Inc. located in Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Myers has been Chairman and an Owner of Myers Financial Corporation since 1969 and also serves as its President. He is the Founder of Woodhaven National Bank; and has extensive experience owning and operating country clubs across the state. He has been recognized as DFW "Entrepreneur of the Year," honored as a recipient of the prestigious Charles Sprague Community Service Award given by UT Southwestern Medical School, and was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 2008.
Mr. Myers has also achieved Hall of Fame-level success through his involvement in numerous civic and philanthropic activities. He is a trustee of the University of Texas Law School Foundation. In honor of his friend, Myers helped create the Kay Bailey Hutchison Chair in Latin American Law at the UT Law School. He is co-founder of the Foundation for Texas Excellence Scholars, and has served as president of the Texas Longhorn Education Foundation and chairman of the UT Chancellor's Council. He received the University's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1996, and was inducted into the business school's Hall of Fame two years later. Mr. Myers has also been a significant supporter of athletic programs at UT. His association with Texas athletics includes being on the Men's Athletics Council and the Longhorn Foundation Advisory Council. He funded the 20,000-seat Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium, home of the university's men's and women's cross country teams, and track and field squads, as well as the women's soccer team.
WILLIE NELSON is an iconic Texan and the creative genius behind historic recordings like "Crazy," "Hello Walls," “Red Headed Stranger” and “Stardust.” His career has spanned six decades. His catalog boasts more than 200 albums. He's earned every conceivable award and honor to be bestowed a person in his profession. He has also amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor and activist. In many ways, however, the weighty distinction "living legend" does Nelson a disservice, for it discounts the extent to which he is a thriving, relevant and progressive musical and cultural force. In the year 2008 alone he delivered two new studio albums and a career-spanning box set, released his debut novel and again headlined Farm Aid, an event he co-founded in 1985, all the while continuing to lobby against horse slaughter and produce his own blend of sustainable biodiesel fuel called BioWillie. In 2007, Mr. Nelson received the inaugural “Bridging Divides” Award from the University of Texas at Austin, Project on Conflict Resolution.
CORBIN "Corby" J. ROBERTSON, JR. is the Managing Partner of Quintana Capital Group, L.P. He is also the Chairman and CEO of the general partner of Natural Resource Partners L.P. (NYSE: NRP) and was the Chairman of Quintana Maritime Limited prior to its sale to Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd. on April 15, 2008. Corby has served as the CEO and Chairman of the general partner of Western Pocahontas Properties since 1986, of Great Northern Properties since 1992 and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of New Gauley Coal since 1986. He also serves or has served as Chairman of the Board of the All-American Wildcatters Association, the Baylor College of Medicine, the Cullen Trust for Higher Education and the World Health and Golf Association, and on the boards of the American Petroleum Institute, the National Petroleum Council and the Texas Medical Center. Mr. Robertson was recently inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame.
